Year in 1: #Urbandietitian
One of my objectives for the dietetics part of my professions was to teach people nutrition and grow my media presence as a consultant dietitian for media.
This year I was on the airwaves 21 times in South African major radio channels such as Metro fm, Classic Fm, SA fm, 702 Talk Radio and Kaya fm to mention a few.
I contributed to a number of South African publications (online and print publications) as a nutrition expert (Dietitian). These included one of South African major magazine True love, Sunday world news paper, My kitchen magazine ,The star and Cape Angus. I was quoted in over 20 South African online journals/ articles such as Sowetan live, citizen, News 24, IOL, Daily Sun.
I made TV appearances as a Dietitian on shows like eNCA, youth show Yo-Tv on one the South African Major broadcaster SABC1
My first commercial advert by The Laughing Cow (TLC) Cheese South Africa which I was played on the Dstv catch up platform on the 2nd half of year. This commercial advert also got over half a million views on you tube within 1 month of it a upload in August 2018. This commercial was part of the duties I was tasked with when I took over the account as their Nutrition Ambassador in May this year. You check out all the work I did this year with TLC I’m their Facebook page @Thelaughingcow
With all the nutrition information I shared in media in 2018, I contributed to the improvement of South African people’s nutrition education. I drive the message of simple, easily accessible and relatable nutrition. Main topics I covered were basic healthy eating concept, alcohol and Ofcouse my interest breastfeeding during the breastfeeding week. I was invited to contribute mainly during the specific health weeks or days e.g. obesity week, nutrition week, vegan month , breastfeeding week and more.
The lack of nutrition education is a major contributor to malnutrition (under-nutririon and over-nutrition)
I believe that media plays a huge role in people’s life
If you want to reach a lot of people at one time, what better way then sharing the information in Media. Hence one of my interests is to continue grow in being a consultant dietitian for media. It is a platform where I educate people about nutrition.
As a registered dietitian I also partnered with one of the giants in the Direct selling wellness platform – Ascendis Health direct (AHD). I joined AHD in May as their Consultant Dietitian and Product specialist. My relationship with them grew from strenght to strenght. We started weekly blogs as part of nutrition education drive with AHD, these are available on their Facebook page @Ascendishealthdirect
Towards the end of the year I was probe to join the unbranded campaign as an influencer on the Margarine unbranded campaign @Theheartofit.ZA. The unbranded campaing aims to debunk myths around margarine and actually educate the public in the use and the nutrition of margarine.
In 2019 I will continue to contribute to the countries sustainable development goal (SDG 3)- Good health and well being through nutrition education .
